Ian writes in a variety of styles , but always to please the performers and listeners alike. Many of Ian’s compositions / arrangements have won critical acclaim both side of the Atlantic and have been published in either the UK or US by: Animus Publishing UK, Boosey & Hawkes UK, Cathedral Musiic UK, St. James Music Press USA and Parish Publications.

He has composed Choral and organ music (mostly sacred), orchestral, instrumental and music for voice and piano. Several of his compositions for voice and piano have been selected as set works for various external examination board syllabuses such as: ABRSM, Trinity Guildhall and National College of Music – all at varying grades and level of diplomas. Many have also been selected as set pieces for competitive music festivals around the country.

In addition he is often commissioned to compose music for both professional and amateur organisations in the UK and America and his music has been performed by notable professional organisations such as the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Chorus and Orchestra, City of Glasgow Chorus, Bristol Cathedral Concert Choir and also the CBSO Chorus and Orchestra.

Ian’s compositions range from large scale choral works including several Masses, often scored for SATB choirs and soloists with either organ or orchestral accompaniment to shorter works including many short songs, choral anthems / motets, service music, in addition to a wealth of music for Christmas, which can often be heard in carol concerts and services up and down the UK and US.

He has also turned his hand to writing a work entitled ‘Shades of Jazz’, what is essentially a Latin Mass which is scored for SATB and Youth choir SA piano, string bass, drum kit and solo violin.

In holds a Doctor of Music degree and several Fellowship diplomas in composition.
